Skincare Routine for Dewy, Supple Skin!
My skincare routine has been a lot of trial and error over the past year. Although my skin was never incredibly terrible, I have definitely freaked out about my skin in the past, and sometimes I still do! Recently I decided to try a new skincare routine to help with my ongoing acne/ enlarged pores/ and red blotchy skin situation. My skin recently started to break out a little bit with my new routine, but I have a feeling its purging due to the fact that my pores were pretty clogged before.
I have tried a multitude of different skin methods from drugstore, to natural, to indie, to now slightly high end.
My skincare journey has been exactly just that, a journey. I have combo, sensitive skin, and my face does not like something... it will breakout.
Here's what I found to work best for my skin (in my little trial period of my new routine!)
If I am wearing makeup, I remove it with my Clinique Take the Day Off Cleaning Balm.
This jar is heaven I swear. It starts off as a solid, I warm up the product in my hand and begin to massage it into my face, by doing so the balm becomes an oil and breaks down all the makeup on your face. Rinse with warm water and the oil becomes a milk. This product does not leave a sticky, greasy residue. Although my skin doesn't feel gross after removing it, I still like to double cleanse with my soap afterwards. Warning though, when removing eye makeup with this product, it will get into your eyes. It does not burn but I have to open my eyes and splash some water into them, so if you wear contacts like me, I suggest taking them out prior to the start of cleansing.
Recently I started using Kiehl's for the majority of the remainder of my routine. After I remove makeup with my cleansing balm, I use the Kiehl's Ultra Facial cleanser. I pair my cleanser with the Vanity Planet Ultimate Skin Spa Facial Cleansing System. This little device is comparable to a Clarasonic, just without that insane price tag. Although the brush retails for $130.00 on their website, there are many coupon codes online and if you have an Amazon Prime membership, the price drops down to just $40.00.
The brush and cleanser combination completely clears out my pores. Depending on the state of my skin I may only use the brush once a day, typically at night. If my skin is feeling a little gross, I will use the brush in the morning. Out of everything in my skincare routine, I suggest this product to everyone. When I was having issues with my other skincare routines, I felt like this was my saving grace. It's absolutely amazing!
After I cleanse, I tone with Witch Hazel. I use Thayers Cucumber with Aloe Vera Witch Hazel to combat my constant redness on my face. After I began to incorporate the Witch Hazel in my routine, I felt like it made my skin feel so much cleaner, it also helped minimize the appearance of pores because they were not as clogged. My skin is so smooth and healthy feeling after applying the Witch Hazel. I take a flat cotton round and wipe it all around my face.
After toning, depending on what time of day it is, I will either moisturize or use a serum. If it is at night, I will apply the Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate prior to moisturizing. Serums are great because they have a smaller molecule size that typical moisturizers, so it easily penetrates into the skin. I used to use many different kinds of oils on my skin instead of moisturizer because it made my skin feel very soft and hydrated. If you prefer oil to a cream moisturizer, I suggest using Jojoba oil because it is most similar to the oil our body naturally produces and is an antiseptic, so it helps fight acne.
After using a serum, I will then apply the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream, to use both day and night, as well as the Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. When I went to the store to look at Kiehl's, the woman at the counter had asked how old I was. When I told her my age she said, "if you're old enough to drink, you're hold enough to use eye cream" and I am so glad I started! With the colder winter months coming ahead, my skin feels incredibly dry, especially my under eye. Now that I have this eye cream, I know I will not feel as crackly and flaky as I usually do.
I know Kiehl's is expensive and I was very hesitant to turn their brand into my routine, but in order to test their products to see if I would like before spending an insane amount of money on it, I had bought the Health Skin Essentials Starter Kit. This kit retails for $52.00 which is great for the amount of product you receive.
Although my skincare routine seems incredibly long and extensive, it takes under 10 minutes to do. And besides, when taking care of your body, it is okay to spend a little extra time pampering yourself. You only get one skin, treat it right!
If I feel my skin needs an extra boost outside of my normal routine, I will usually do a mask. If I have time I will steam my face as well.
When doing a mask and steam, I will cleanse my skin with my cleanser and face brush. If I have time to steam, I will do that first in order to open up my pores. A little boost when you steam is the Lush Steam Tabs! I have tried both Tea Tree and Rose and both are great. Tea Tree really opens up your sinuses, so if you're feeling a little congested I suggest to use that one.
When doing a mask, I typically use my Lush masks. I have only tried to, the Rose Mask and the BB Seaweed. My favorite is BB Seaweed and I have repurchased it. The mask is cleansing yet hydrating. My skin does not feel stripped after use and feels dewy and fresh!
I hope you enjoyed learning about my skincare routine, I have noticed a huge improvement in my skin since using such products. Although my skin is no where near perfect, I am a step in the right direction!
